Two years ago, a couple of sisters in Miramar saw the trend’s potential and decided to join the cupcake ride Rebecca and Stephanie Campbell began to make cupcakes for fun, for friend’s parties Work increased by word of mouth and, a few months ago, the sisters opened a shop, Cupcakes, in Miramar’s Caledonia St, selling cupcakes, coffee and accessories. iwc schaffhausen
“There is a bus stop right outside,” Rebecca says “People coming off the bus in the evenings can smell fresh baking wafting down the street, and see into our busy little kitchen”
The sisters bake at night to allow the cakes to cool, ready for icing the next morning While Rebecca and Stephanie could buy pre- made decorations, they choose to make their own
“Homemade tastes better, and this way we can make sure we aren’t feeding our customers any nasty chemicals,” Rebecca says
But making decorations by hand can be time consuming, especially when there is a big order to fill A single edible flower has to be stamped out, shaped, hand coloured, painted with glitter and have its stamen stuck in before being applied to a cupcake The work is worth it, though, Rebecca says “We get so much positive feedback”

Tamara Jane, of Tempt, began her cupcake business three years ago, and was baking right through the recession
“Business didn’t slow down with the recession People still want to feel pampered and special, no matter what the economy is doing”
So what makes a perfect cupcake? All our bakers agreed that the cake has to be light, but not dry; full-flavoured, but not too sweet Icing has to be light and airy, and generously portioned
Decorations should be immaculate, and the cupcake should resemble a mini work of art
As for Magnolia Bakery in New York, Tamara Jane has been there
“I visited Magnolia bakery five years ago, about the time the Sex and the City episode aired and it began to get crazy. Replica Handbags
“The presentation [of the cupcakes] was spectacular They just have so many cakes! Seeing them for the en-masse wow factor was amazing, although they weren’t as intricate as the ones we make here”
And the taste? “Americans have a very sweet tooth I found their cupcakes too sickly sweet”
